Bio

I am a postdoctoral applied scientist at CSIRO’s Data61, the national scientific research institute of Australia. I work with Dr. Cecile Paris, Dr. Sarvnaz Karimi, and Dr. Diego Molla-Aliod in the Language Technology Team. I acquired PhD in Natural Language Processing 🎓 from the University of Melbourne, supervised by A/Prof. Nicholas Geard, Prof. Karin Verspoor, Prof. Justin Zobel, and Dr. Benjamin Goudey.

My research focuses on applying NLP and large language models (LLMs) techniques for addressing real-world challenges. Since 2020, I have developed automated methods for extracting key information from electronic medical records (EMRs) and hospital discharge notes, thereby supporting more efficient clinical research and improving outpatient care 📄. I have also designed an automated quality assessment framework for biological databases, enhancing the reliability of stored knowledge for genomic research. At the algorithmic level, I have proposed a novel approach that integrates knowledge graph diffusion with distributional semantics, enabling more precise natural language understanding in domains requiring nuanced, context-sensitive interpretation. 🔍.

In my current role at CSIRO, I lead efforts to enhance the explainability of LLMs, with a focus on their use as safeguards 🛡️ in predicting suicide ideation on social media. I also lead a team conducting comprehensive evaluations of LLMs across a range of affective computing tasks, including cross-lingual and cross-cultural emotion detection, as well as temporal sentiment regression. In addition, I supervise researchers from industry and major government organizations across multiple countries, supporting projects that require close collaboration across national, institutional, and disciplinary boundaries.

Currently, I am engaged in an exploratory scientific research project aimed at assisting clinical psychologists in identifying novel emotion regulation patterns from large-scale social media data, and in developing effective strategies to support resilience and improve mental health outcomes ❤️.
